A foundation course is a one-year preparation course intended for students who have studied in the education systems of countries whose qualifications that are not recognised for direct entry to UK Universities. Foundation courses lead to undergraduate programmes in the UK.
The Foundation course is offered as an entry route to students who feel they are not yet ready for degree-level study, or are returning to study and feel they need some help to get up to speed with the demands of learning and/or do not yet meet the entry requirements for degree-level study.
Foundation programmes are suitable for students who want to study at universities, and, see above, local and International Students who do not meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate degree and/or do not have the right qualifications for their intended course and level of study. These are equally appropriate for school-leavers who have studied a non-British curriculum and wish to pursue a degree at university.
Such course can help develop mathematical and English skills as well as provide an introduction to their area of study.
